After a 12 years of being together, Megan and Doug celebrated their Edgewood Country Club wedding with family and friends in River Vale, New Jersey. They had a beautiful fall day and a dance floor that was nonstop from start to finish! When a couple has been dating since high school and been together for over a decade, I know the party is going to be an energetic one. Megan and Doug were engaged on Christmas almost two years ago and shortly after that booked me for their wedding at the lovely Edgewood Country Club. We met up last fall for a mini engagement session at my house. You can check that out by clicking here.
I started with Doug and the guys at the Edgewood Country Club… Doug’s dad looks on us Doug’s brother helps him with his bowtie… Doug looking handsome…
I headed upstairs at the Edgewood Country Club to Megan and the girls… The girls help Megan with some final details of her dress… Megan’s dad waiting to turn around and see her as a bride… Megan looking gorgeous… Drink break!
I loved the way this tree was dancing in the wind behind Megan and wanted to incorporate its shadow into a portrait… here’s my take. Megan and Doug’s first look…
The look of love… The rare bridal party picture post on the blog. The blog has always been a space to call my own. It’s not something I guarantee to anyone or let anyone dictate what goes on it. Blogs have definitely been cut out by most photographers as they outsource most of their work as the industry pushes us to spend less and less time on the edits and post production and to put focus into social media dancing around to entertain you. However, one of my joys is being able to highlight images that excite me and, together, present a story of the day through my own eyes without rules about having to post certain images. It is a lot of extra work that, on my end of the industry, I’m being told is a waste of time, but it brings me joy and I hope it brings joy to my couples and their family and friends as well. Although my clients want photography that tells their story and are more into the candid images, I do take formal portraits very seriously and want them to be technically strong images. Once in awhile, I’ll showcase a formal group portrait on my blog… so here you go! Fun way to travel down the aisle… Megan’s mom and grandmother look as Megan and her dad begin their walk down the aisle for her Edgewood Country Club outdoor wedding ceremony…
12 years in the making! Megan and Doug share their first dance at the start of their Edgewood Country Club wedding reception… Megan’s mom and her bridesmaids watch as she dances with her dad… In honor of Doug’s mom who recently passed away, they had a group memorial dance. It was lovely with smiles and tears. I’m not sure if anyone ever notices, but my eyes often well up and I have to wipe tears away many times at weddings during these parents dances, especially emotional ones like this. I lost my father when I was 10 years old and lost many people this past year including two of my immediate family members. After nearly two decades of photographing weddings, I am not immune to the emotional impact of these moments and I think that is a good thing. Staying connected to my work is very important to me. The industry has pushed such a disconnect on us encouraging so much outsourcing, but it is important to me that I remain connected to my work on all levels. The dance floor opened… and the people just kept dancing and dancing! The “Worm” is one of those things that often happens out of nowhere. My experience and technical know-how are what allow me to capture awesome vantage points like this when it happens. You’ve got to be quick! Megan’s sisters having some fun with the little car… Tie limbo! It was a pleasure working with Megan, Doug, their friends and family and the Edgewood Country Club on their fantastic wedding! Thanks to Brandan Calhoun for assisting me. You can check out another recent Edgewood Country Club wedding I photographed by clicking here.
