While I don’t actively market NJ family photography because weddings keep me so busy, I do photograph a few families each year and it’s a really fun switch and challenge from weddings. The cool thing about this shoot is that I originally worked with Bryan and Michael on their wedding celebration all the way back in 2011! I was excited to work with them about three years ago taking pics of their son, Harrington. Harrington is such a pleasure to work with, I was more than happy to catch up with him again about 1 1/2 years ago. So, of course, when Bryan reached out about doing photos again this Spring, I was honored. What made it even more fun is that they now have a new addition, Paxton, another sweet little cutie pie. It always changes the dynamic adding in another young child to a session so it was fun to meet up again to see what was in store for us. I liked being able to incorporate some similar images that we did the last time as markers of time. It’s amazing what a difference a year makes when kids are little.
Love this pic… Harrington really enjoyed flying through the air the last time. It was fun to add in Paxton and watch the joy on everyone’s faces!
Two new additions, Paxton and Odin…
I love the little quiet moments that happen with kids. This photo is reminiscent of one I took a year and a half ago with Orion, who sadly, passed away shortly after our session. I was happy I was able to capture such a sweet shot with him and Harrington and even happier to see it as a huge print on the walls of their home. This guy here is Odin and he is a giant puppy with lots of energy!
Little moments…
Harrington just keeps getting more handsome and remains a sweetie pie…
I included this shot because it sums up what photographing two little ones is all about. I know this kind of image is super over-done in the photography world. You see it a lot in weddings. Majority of the time, it’s highly contrived, but this was really organic. I was focusing in on Paxton when Harrington came running by and I decided to keep shooting. Of course there was the part of me that thought about having Harrington do it again so I could land Paxton in a better composition and see more of him, but that felt too staged and I knew this picture summed up what it’s like to photograph two littles ones….
Cutie pie!
We headed down to the greenhouse to work with the tulips and the awesome round Hobbit door, but Harrington felt the need to sweep. Who am I to stop a kid from cleaning?
This horse wasn’t letting us get a family photo. Totally reminds me of my dog who loves to wander right into my frame when I’m trying to photograph my daughter. While watching the scene, I just loved this moment. It tells much more of a story than a simple posed family photo.
Hah!
Precious…
Harrington is always good for a super up close shot!
This is like one of those iconic pictures of siblings. Paxton was a bit tired and preferred to just be held by his dad, so he wasn’t quite into his brother holding him, but it’s precious nonetheless.
I like ending with this image. The boys didn’t realize I was actually taking photos and Harrington was just doing his thing with Paxton and I love the story it tells…
Weddings are full of tight timelines and tons of must-have shots that are expected to be incorporated into a candid story so I do enjoy the opportunity to work on a more free-flowing timeline and with a family that is willing to just let the images unfold as they do. Kids are fast and unpredictable and have their own agendas, but NJ family photography is a nice change of pace from weddings to keep me sharp! It was such an honor to photograph Bryan, Michael, Harrington and Paxton. It’s a joy watching their family grow.
