shade and chris’ lbi gables inn intimate wedding was a seriously fantastic event. i’ve photographed weddings all of kinds and i have a sweet spot in my heart for intimate weddings where couples are willing to forgo some of the wedding day traditions like bridal parties, getting ready separately and typical reception timelines. amanda and patrick’s wedding was my first introduction to this gem of a wedding venue. the gables inn is the kind of place that really brings the focus of the day to the love and connection of not just the couple, but their friends and family.
when i met with shade about her wedding, she had a warmth that you could instantly feel. i also found out we share the same birthday, so perhaps we are kindred spirits. her and chris’ love story is a beautiful one and a testament to the fact that sometimes love takes us on a journey we don’t expect. shade and chris used to date when they were in high school, but they broke it off when he went off to california only to find their way back to one another many years later. sometimes in life, we circle right back to where we started. 
two more ‘shades’… a family name-shade’s mother and daughter are also named ‘shade’….
i’ve had several couples this year get ready together. i love the idea of this. while there is nothing wrong with wanting to get ready apart, there is a real intimacy to getting ready together on your wedding day. when you think about it, most couples get ready together while at home, but yet on their wedding day a big deal is made about getting ready separately. i think it’s wonderful when couples keep some of the normalcy of getting ready together as part of their wedding day as well…

the wedding industry has pushed couples toward impeccably polished portraits together and while i love an impeccably polished portrait, i also love to tell a story…
we had a very hot and humid end to the summer and shade and chris were amazing as they stood in the hot noon sun on the beach to get some portraits…

not only is the gables inn on lbi sweet and charming, the food is amazing and the owner, sondra, is a kick-ass woman…
I don’t often show posed family portraits on my blog because i really like to emphasize more candid images to tell the story, but I thought this one was really sweet with shade’s 3 kids and chris’ two kids…

As cousins to the bride, we were honored to be at Shade and Chris’ wedding at this beautiful inn. It was a most joyous occassion and the love that Shade and Chris have for each other was amazingly evident. We are ever so happy for them. These photographs reflect the love we witnessed~ breathtakingly beautiful!
