Amy and Stacia reached out to me just few months prior to their National Society of Colonial Dames and Union Trust Ballroom wedding in Philadelphia. While most of my couples book me a year or more in advance, I do get a handful that come a bit closer to the date and that is always a good sign to me because if you are willing to pull off planning a wedding in under 6 months, you’re probably going to be pretty chill to work with. We worked out our logistics for the day and everything went exactly as planned and right on time which is pretty rare in the wedding world. Amy and Stacia began the day together getting ready at the Union Trust Ballroom and then I headed over to the National Society of Colonial Dames with Amy for her to get in her dress. Amy and Stacia did a first look in the beautiful gardens where we also took some portraits and then a lovely ceremony in the garden and then a quick stop for a City Hall pic and onto Union Trust Ballroom for the reception.
First stop… Union Trust Ballroom where everyone was getting ready together..
That look of love from Stacia as she watches Amy have her make-up done…
That look of love back… I don’t think anyone needs tons of pictures of having make-up applied, but I don’t think you can ever have too many photos of the ‘look of love!’
A little smooch from mom…
A little help from mom…
I headed over to The National Society of Colonial Dames with Amy…
I know this is an image that might get quickly overlooked because what gets the attention in the wedding world is gorgeous portraits in amazing locations…but if you’ve followed me for awhile, you’d know I don’t post for the attention. I post for the story and I post to share what excites me. Art History was my minor in college and there are works of art that I appreciated more once I learned more about them, the artist, or the times the were created in. Sometimes I like to share why I created a particular image in hopes that it’ll help someone else appreciate something they didn’t notice before.
I wanted to work in one of the ‘Colonial Dames’ at this location and this little moment while the girls were getting ready was my opportunity to work a dame in candidly (candids make my heart sing). If you notice, the mirror only shows a small portion of each of subjects reflections. It’s a symmetry that makes my mind happy. Many people don’t realize that my Bachelors and Masters degrees are in the sciences. While I am definitely a creative at heart, I’ve always had this balance with the orderly, analytical, scientific side and I think that comes through in my images.
Picture perfect!
I love the quaint gardens at The National Society of Colonial Dames in Philadelphia…
After a long winter, I welcome all the lush green of summer!
A little jaunt over to Rittenhouse Square…
The portrait on the right might be simple and straight-forward, but I love all the joy emanating off of Amy and Stacia…
I love an enthusiastic flower-child. Some kids are very gentle with the petals, some dump most of them in one spot and some really put effort into making them fly…
Another little smooch from mom at the altar…
Amy’s son and daughter walked her down the aisle…
I love how joy can quickly turn into holding back tears…
We had to take a picture in the library given that Amy and Stacia are both professors…
The reception was held at the lovely Union Trust Ballroom…
I know it is hard to see, but this is the moment Amy and Stacia were announced to the guests down below. They grabbed a quick kiss, but I loved the environmental version of the moment…
Amy and Stacia surprised guests with a drag show… After some fine food and entertainment, the guests were ready to party with music by DJ Amberlynn… Such a lovely day working with these two beautiful women on their National Society of Colonial Dames and Union Trust Ballroom wedding. Perfect weather, perfect timing and perfect fun! Thanks to Dave Alonso for assisting me.
