i don’t like spiders, therefore, i’m not particularly fond of spider webs. i also don’t like mornings, but one morning this past july i found myself up early photographing spider webs. the reason i was up so early was because a fierce case of pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel had me numb and in a lot of discomfort and getting very little sleep. i was about to take a walk with my mom who had been visiting for the holiday weekend. due with my baby the next day, i figured she was staying in there for awhile because most babies are not due on their due dates. when i went outside i saw tons of spider webs in the trees that i’d never seen before… and perhaps this is just because i don’t wake up that early, hah, the beautiful morning light and tiniest bit of dew nestled upon them. it was enough to motivate me to get my camera out. and this is what i came up with…(not bad for an extremely pregnant lady who couldn’t feel her hands)
the reason this is my valentine post is because later that day as we headed out to eat with our family i would go into labor with my daughter and whenever i see these pictures and spiderwebs in trees, i think about my daughter and that magical time just before she was born… knowing she would be here soon, but not knowing exactly when. while she’d miss her due date by 21 mins and i’d labor for a tiring 30 hours, i could never imagine how ridiculously adorable, resilient and happy she would be. my husband and i now have another valentine in our lives and spider webs in trees will forever remind me of her.
happy valentine’s day.
